Enabl3D: Empowering Lives through Customized Daily Aids

Enabl3D initiated a comprehensive survey to identify the needs of people with disabilities and ensure that there is a demand for personalized daily living aids. The results confirmed that 85% of the respondents experience daily obstacles in their lives due to their disabilities, with nearly 90% finding these barriers highly distressing.

Therapists also supported the need for aids and saw potential for improvement. These findings reinforced Enabl3D's commitment to making the lives of people with disabilities easier through tailored daily living aids.

When we launched the Enabl3D project during our studies at the University of Liechtenstein, it was crucial for us to ensure that the problem we identified was indeed a relevant challenge in the daily lives of people with disabilities. Therefore, we conducted a comprehensive study to confirm the demand for personalized daily living aids for this target group.

We conducted two different online surveys in the DACH region. One was aimed at people with disabilities, while the other targeted occupational, physiotherapists, and orthopedic technicians.

The results of our survey among those affected confirmed our initial assumption. Overall, 85% of the respondents stated that they encounter daily obstacles in their lives due to their disabilities. Particularly noteworthy was that almost 90% of these individuals found these barriers highly distressing. These numbers underscore the acute need to find solutions to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.

In addition to the predominantly positive feedback from individuals with physical disabilities, it was also crucial for us to obtain consent from the second survey of therapists. The responses we received from these professionals showed that almost all respondents already use daily living aids in their therapies. Nevertheless, they still saw room for improvement, as many different types of physical disabilities still lack specific aids.

The extremely positive feedback from our target audiences encouraged us to pursue and implement the original idea. From this point on, it was clear to us that we would no longer consider the idea of using 3D printing to produce individual daily living aids as just a project. As Enabl3D, we have set the goal of making the daily lives of people with disabilities easier by providing individually tailored aids.

Key survey results:

  • 85% of the respondents experience daily obstacles in their lives due to their disabilities.

  • 76% of the respondents find their daily obstacles distressing to highly distressing.

  • 70% of the respondents can envision that a daily living aid tailored to their situation could help reduce their daily obstacles.

These results emphasize the urgent need for solutions that can make the lives of people with disabilities easier. Enabl3D is committed to making a positive contribution and meeting these needs. We strive to offer innovative and customized daily living aids to enhance the quality of life for this target group and minimize their everyday obstacles.
